Since the founding of the Galter Health Sciences Library, the Library collections have been enriched by generous gifts of books and other materials. The Library welcomes gifts that fall within the scope of its collecting activities and which support programs in the Feinberg School of Medicine and Northwestern University. Of particular interest are scholarly or rare items with research value that are in good physical condition.
Gifts of materials are accepted by the Library with the understanding that upon receipt, the Library becomes the owner of the materials. The Library reserves the right to determine their retention based on their suitability for the collection, location, cataloging, and other considerations related to their disposition. Only the Associate Director, Heidi Nickish Duggan, or her designees may accept gifts on behalf of the Library.
Anyone interested in donating books, videos, DVDs, or manuscripts, should contact Ramune Kubilius, Collection Development Librarian, at (312) 503-1912 or by email. To donate rare books or unusual items such as instruments and other artifacts important to the history of medicine, dentistry, physical therapy, nursing, pharmacy or other health disciplines, please contact Ron Sims, Special Collections Librarian, at 312-503-1913. Delivery to the Library is the donor's responsibility and the cost may be tax deductible.
Donors who wish an evaluation of their gift for tax purposes are referred to the Internal Revenue Service for instructions. It is the donor's responsibility to provide lists of materials donated. The Library will not provide appraisals or lists of materials donated.
Donations of funds to supplement the Library's acquisitions are always welcomed. Information on making contributions to the Library, establishing an endowment and naming opportunities may be obtained on the How to Support the Library page or from the Associate Director at (312) 503-8133.
Appropriate acknowledgment of all gifts will be made by the Library. Where appropriate, book plates with the donor's name may be placed in the volumes.
