What is the Galter Library LibX Toolbar?

LibX is an add-on for Firefox and Internet Explorer which installs a new browser toolbar enabling you to do a number of cool things directly from the toolbar including:
  • Retrieve full-text within PubMed by clicking on the linked PMID
  • Search PubMed by PMID or Keyword
  • Search NUcat by Keyword, Title, Journal Title, etc.
  • Search the Galter website
  • Search Google Scholar
  • Highlight text on any webpage, right-click and search NUcat, PubMed, Google Scholar, etc.
  • Highlight text on any PDF within a browser, and drag it to the Google Scholar button, Search NUcat button, etc.

You can also search NUcat directly from other sites such as Amazon by clicking on the Galter icon which will automatically appear when you're looking at an individual item at Amazon.

How Do I Get the LibX Toolbar?

Download/install the Galter Library LibX toolbar

If you decide you no longer want the LibX toolbar you can disable or uninstall it.

In Firefox

  • Go to Tools>>Add-ons
  • Select Northwestern University Galter Library LibX
  • Click either Disable or Uninstall

In Internet Explorer

Important: LibX works with IE7, but IE8/IE9, especially on Windows 7, is not reliably supported.

  • Go to Tools>>Manage Add-ons>>Enable or Disable Add-ons
  • Select one LibX bar Add-on (there are two components) and choose disable 
  • Repeat the prior step with the other LibX component
