UCentral Applications for PDAs and Handhelds
UCentral is a gateway to knowledge resources on PDAs, wireless devices, and the Web providing:
- Access to Harrison's Manual of Medicine, Davis's Drug Guide, Pocket Guide to Diagnostic Tests, and Taber's Cyclopedic Medical Dictionary
- Retrieval of daily need-to-know information updates
- Navigation of content optimized for each medium (PDA, Wireless or Web)
- Storage, organization and sharing of information over time
UCentral supports Palm, Windows Mobile, Blackberry, Android, and iPhone/iPod devices.
The first step is to create an account on the UCentral website.
- While on campus or signed in to the Galter Library website, go to the Galter Library home page and click the UCentral icon in Popular Resources
- Click the Register for PDA Download link on the UCentral home page
- Click Register Now and create an account
The UCentral account will give you access to the resources to which Northwestern University has subscribed: Taber's, Harrison's Manual, Davis's Drug Guide, and Pocket Guide to Diagnostic Tests.
- Log in to the UCentral website
- Click PDA in the upper right-hand corner of the screen
- Click Download Software in the menu on the left
- Choose your device and follow the instructions for download
- If you are using an iPhone or iPod Touch, you may prefer to use the App store icon on your device to download the software (see below)
- Go to the App store on your device.
- Search for "Unbound" and tap Unbound Medicine, Inc.
- Select UCentral, tap Free, then tap Install (see note below)
- You will be asked to log in to the App Store (using your iTunes password)
- UCentral will then install to your device.
- Once installed, log in with your UCentral user name and password
Note: There are separate apps in the App Store for all of the UCentral products. If you install and use the separate apps for Davis's Drug Guide, Harrison's Manual, Taber's and Pocket Guide to Diagnostic Tests, you can only access the content with an individual subscription. To use the NU institutional subscription, you must download the UCentral app and log in with your UCentral user name and password.
When you access UCentral resources on your handheld device, you should see all the resources to which the library has subscribed. To add or delete resources, log in to your UCentral account on the Unbound Medicine website.
Once logged in on the UCentral home page, you will see a section called Currently on your PDA. Click the More button in this section to add or delete content. The next time you update your handheld device, any changes you made will take effect.
