Connecting from Off-Campus

Sign in to the library website now.

Off-campus access to Galter Library-licensed resources, such as databases and e-journals, is available by signing in to the library website. This provides a seamless connection and validates you as an NU Feinberg School of Medicine affiliate. At the present time, off-campus access is only available to currently-affiliated faculty, students, residents and staff of the Feinberg School of Medicine, and staff at NMH and RIC.

First-time users

First-time users of Galter Library off-campus access will need to create a library website account. To do this, you need a WildCARD or library-issued card with a barcode. If you don't have a WildCARD, you can obtain a library barcode from the Health Learning Center at NMH or the circulation desk at Galter Library. Click on Sign in/Create an Account link in the upper right-hand section of the page, then follow the instructions to create an account. Once registered, sign in to the Galter home page and use all the resources as you would normally do.

NMH/NMFF users of the Medical Reference link in NM Connect

With the recent website redesign and implementation, we have made some necessary changes to the automatic library sign in from NM Connect, also known as the Medical Reference link. When users access the library website through NM Connect while at NMH or NMFF, they will still be able to access the Galter Library website, but they will no longer be automatically signed into the library website.

How does this affect NMH and NMFF users?

Most resources are accessible to on-campus NMH and NMFF users without signing into the library website, but to ensure complete access and to take advantage of personal customization features on the library website, users should sign into the library website with their personal library website account.

Can I still get in to the library website if I log in to NM Connect while at home or away from the medical campus?

Yes, if you are using a Citrix client and a remote access keyfob. A personal account with the library website is required:

  • if you are off campus and not using the Citrix client and remote access keyfob
  • if you are trying to access selected resources held by the University Library in Evanston (you will be prompted to sign in for certain resources)
  • if you want to view your customized Galter web page (whether on campus or not)

Virtual Private Network (VPN)

An additional connection alternative is available to NU affiliates who have a net id. The Virtual Private Network Client (VPN) is another option that also provides access to NU resources. Users of the NU VPN may not have full access to Chicago campus-only resources, i.e. e-journals, e-books, and databases that are usually only accessible on the Chicago campus. For complete access to all Galter Library electronic resources, sign in to the Galter Library website. To learn more about and to use the NU VPN, go to the Connecting from Off-Campus page on the NUIT website.
