Medical Subject Headings,
or MeSH, provide a way to search all articles on
a topic by using one phrase to describe that topic. Medical
Subject Headings are created and updated by the National
Library of Medicine. They are part of a hierarchy that
links related MeSH terms together.
Useful
MeSH terms in biomedical engineering include:

of Motion, Articular |
One
way to refine your search would be to use subheadings such
as rehabilitation, instrumentation, or standards with
specific terms or medical problems, e.g. "biomedical
engineering--instrumentation" or "knee injuries--rehabilitation." When
in Ovid MEDLINE, perform your subject search first, e.g.
biomedical engineering. Once you have chosen a subject
heading, you will be taken to a list of relevant subheadings.
For example, by choosing "instrumentation" you
will be narrowing your search to articles that deal with
the instrumentation aspect of your topic.
There are a number of databases that will cover the subject area of biomedical engineering (see list below). Using the MeSH terms mentioned above will not necessarily retrieve good results when searching databases other than MEDLINE. Please read the Search Help or Tips section of the database you are using before starting your search.
