Customizing
Your Health SmartLibrary
Customization is the essence of the Health SmartLibrary. You decide
which resources, of the thousands owned by the library, are the
most important to you, and promote them to the front page for quick and
easy access. Simply by virtue of choosing a specialty when you register,
you are given a specialty profile. The specialty profile includes
the top resources in your field as judged by the Galter librarians.
You can content yourself with your specialty profile, or you can
create your own personal profile by adding to, or deleting from,
the specialty profile. You can revert back to your specialty profile
at any time. There are three areas that are customizable: My E-Resources,
Quick Search tools, and Stay Current.
My E-Resources

When logged in to the Health SmartLibrary, My E-Resources

To change the resources that appear under My E-Resources:
- Log in to the HSL
- Choose Edit HSL > My E-Resources from the
menu bar across the top of the page (or click the Edit button beside the My E-resources section on the home page)

A popular feature of the Health SmartLibrary is the ability to enter

default based on your specialty profile.
To use the Quick Search:

Stay Current
Customize now
The Stay Current tool is designed to alert you to the most current
journal literature in your field of interest, and provide a link
to the abstracts or the full-text, if available, of those articles.
(Note: the Web site also includes links to general health
information from the media under the heading: What's In the News. This
is not customizable.)
The Stay Current feature is actually a search of the MEDLINE database,
via PubMed, for the most recent articles described by a search term.
By default, the search terms for each specialty profile are the
names of the top journals in that specialty. But you can personalize
this tool by entering any search term, including Boolean operators,
etc.
To customize your Stay Current queries:
- Log in to the HSL
- Choose Edit HSL > Stay Current from the
menu bar across the top of the page (or click the Edit button beside the Research Articles section heading)
- You will come to a page that lists your current Stay Current
terms with options to edit or delete those terms, add new terms,
and/or revert to your specialty profile.
- The more specific your search strategy, the more precise your
results will be.
- You can cut and paste search strategies from PubMed for optimal
results.
- After you have added new terms, click the Home button to see
that your changes have taken effect
The Stay Current section also includes the latest book reviews in your specialty from Doody's Book Review Service.

Customize now
The personalized file cabinet can be used to store and organize
your favorite links. Links may be to Web sites, journal articles,
or any other resource that has a URL. Because you can log in to
HSL from any location, this feature is like a portable Bookmarks
or Favorites folder.
To customize your File Cabinet:
- Log in to the HSL
- Choose Edit HSL > File Cabinet from the
menu bar across the top of the page (or click the Edit button in the File Cabinet section on the home page)
- To add a new URL, click Add New Item to My File Cabinet
- Type a name and URL into the form
- You can also add folders and descriptions as needed to organize
your links
