New in the Health SmartLibrary: Doody's Book Review Service

Steven Hunt, MLS, Web Librarian, shunt@northwestern.edu

Users of our Web site may have noticed a new feature added recently: new book reviews in their specialty provided by Doody Enterprises, Inc. Doody’s Book Review Service™ evaluates books and electronic products across a wide range of clinical specialty areas in basic science, clinical medicine, nursing, allied health, and other disciplines.

The service collects information on approximately 3,000 book and software titles each year from over 250 of the world’s leading publishers of professional level healthcare publications. Expert reviews of about 2,000 of the titles each year are prepared by a network of more than 5,000 academically-affiliated healthcare professionals who write a formatted review and fill out a ratings questionnaire for each title. Since 1993 more than 17,500 books have been reviewed.

Doody Enterprises sends its reviews to more than 300,000 health care and health information professionals through a weekly e-mail service and personalized web pages. It is estimated that more than 1,000,000 individuals worldwide regularly consult Doody's Book Reviews.

You will find a link to Doody's book reviews in your specialty under the "Stay Current " section of the homepage after logging in. Click the titles to read the reviews in your specialty or browse Doody's book reviews in all specialties. There is a link to our online catalog, so you can check if we have obtained the book at Galter. If we have not acquired it and you would like to recommend that the library get a particular title, please fill out a Request for Purchase form or contact us at ghsl-ref@northwestern.edu.
