New Electronic Resources for 2006

The Galter Library is constantly striving to update our electronic resources and bring the most current tools to our patrons' desktops. With the new year, the library continues to increase its electronic collection. For the most comprehensive information on the Galter Library's electronic resources, please consult the online catalog (NUcat) as well as the E-Resources section of our Web site.

Journals

Blackwell Publishing
Thanks to a new Northwestern University libraries’ cooperative license, as of 2006, affiliated users of Galter Library and Northwestern University are able to electronically access virtually all Blackwell Publishing journal titles. The suite includes access to individual titles formerly licensed by Galter Library and other Northwestern University libraries, but also includes access to previously unsubscribed titles such as:

  • ACP PIER (in STAT!Ref suite)

PIER (Physicians’ Information and Education Resource ) is an evidence-based guidance tool, a collection of disease modules that can be searched, found alphabetically or browsed by organ system. PIER is produced by the ACP, the American College of Physicians, and includes AHFS DI (Drug Information) Essentials.

  • Clin-eguide (in Ovid suite)

Clin-eguide is a point-of-care clinical decision support system that distills disease management, drug therapy and laboratory results knowledge. Search pathways developed by the editorial team are: Disease; Drug; Laboratory; Performance improvement.

  • Unbound Central (PDA resource)

Unbound Central is a gateway to knowledge resources on PDAs, wireless devices, and the Web, including news alerts and licensed clinical medical information.

  • UpToDate (restricted access online resource)

UpToDate provides clinical topic review information designed for specialists. Information prepared by specialty experts includes: clinical manifestations of a variety of disorders and descriptions of current diagnosis, management, and therapy options.

Note: At the request of educational faculty, the Galter Library has licensed this resource to complement access provided by the license entered into by Northwestern Memorial Hospital. Licensing restrictions mean that this resource is not accessible via VPN and it cannot be accessed off-campus or via the wireless network.
