In Memoriam: Cecile Kramer 1926-2007James Shedlock, AMLS, AHIP, Director, j-shedlock@northwestern.eduI write to share the sad news that Cecile E. Kramer, director of the medical school library from 1975 to 1991, passed away Thursday, January 25, 2007. Cele had been in declining health for the past year or so.
Cele was very active in her profession serving in a number of roles within the Medical Library Association (MLA). She was a continuing education course instructor for human services management; she was editor of the MLA News; she served in leadership roles within the New York-New Jersey Chapter of the MLA; and she was named a Fellow of the MLA in 1993. Meet Your Liaison LibrarianLinda O'Dwyer, MSLIS, l-odwyer@northwestern.eduAs part of the Galter Health Sciences Library’s ongoing efforts to meet the information needs of our users, the library recently rolled out its new liaison program. The program creates ongoing partnerships between the library and its constituents by pairing librarians with departments, centers, institutes, and programs at the Feinberg School of Medicine (FSM). This endeavor will enhance communication, collaboration, and the effectiveness of the library in supporting the education, clinical, and research needs of the FSM community. While the library has spent years forging relationships with individuals and departments at FSM, the liaison program serves to formalize these connections and provides a model for establishing further partnerships and collaboration. Conservation and Restoration of Cowper’s AnatomiaRon Sims, MA, Special Collections Librarian, rnsms@northwestern.edu
The Library’s copy of William Cowper’s Anatomia corporum humanorum (1739) from the A.D. Black History of Dentistry Collection has been restored and returned from the bookbinding and conservation studio of Martha Little in California. The oversize folio, measuring 52 x 36 centimeters has had a near complete makeover. The spine covering was entirely missing as were corners on the boards. |
