Welcome New Residents and Fellows!Linda O'Dwyer, MSLIS, email LindaThe Galter Health Sciences Library would like to extend a warm welcome to all new and continuing residents and fellows. While we try to make contact with all new interns and fellows at hospital orientations, we may have missed you this year. Did you know that you can access all library resources from both on and off campus? You probably already have a library barcode in our system. This is the same barcode as the one on your WildCARD, the university id that most residents and fellows are eligible to receive. If you don’t have a WildCARD or don’t know your barcode, just stop by the Circulation Desk of the Galter Library or NMH Health Learning Center. Library Director Jim Shedlock, AHIP, FMLA, Inducted as Fellow of the Medical Library AssociationLinda O'Dwyer, MSLIS, email Linda
Jim has been a devoted and active member of the association for over thirty years, serving as book review editor (1989-1991) and later as a two-time editorial board member of the Bulletin of the Medical Library Association (BMLA), now the Journal of the Medical Library Association (JMLA). In 1996, he was elected to serve on the MLA Board of Directors and was twice elected to MLA's Nominating Committee. Pam Shaw Receives NLM Informationist FellowshipJames Shedlock, AMLS, AHIP, FMLA, email James
Pam Shaw, the Galter Health Sciences Library’s biosciences librarian, has been awarded an Informationist Fellowship from the National Library of Medicine (NLM). The fellowship award provides stipends to cover tuition and partial salary benefits for 2007 to 2009. In its program announcement for the Informationist Fellowship, NLM defines informationists as “information specialists who have received graduate training and practical experience that provides them with disciplinary background both in medical or biological sciences and in information sciences/informatics…. These fellowships are intended for health sciences librarians, scientists, health professionals and others who wish to broaden their existing scientific background by acquiring the additional disciplinary knowledge and experience to function as an informationist.” |
New Residents and Fellows: Meet Your Liaison LibrarianThe Galter Health Sciences Library liaison program creates ongoing partnerships between the library and its constituents by pairing librarians with departments, centers, institutes, and programs at the Feinberg School of Medicine (FSM). The intention is to provide faculty, students, residents, and staff with the name of at least one person they can call upon as a starting point for assistance with or information about any library service or issue. All new residents and fellows have been assigned a liaison librarian. Your liaison is here to assist you with any library-related questions or information needs, from help with accessing resources while off-campus to assistance with search strategies as you prepare a paper or a presentation for morning report. Meet your liaison librarian and find out more about the liaison program. You will find the name of your liaison by looking at the department list on the liaison program page.
